Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite C, Round 4, Day 3: Anukul Roy’s maiden hundred hands Jharkhand lead over Goa

On his 20th birthday, India Under-19 World Cup winner Anukul Roy scored his maiden first-class hundred to steer Jharkhand to the first-innings lead over hosts Goa  on day three of their 2018-19 Ranji Trophy  Elite Group C round four match at Porvorim.

Jharkand began Friday on 147/2, trailing Goa by 217 runs, and lost Saurabh Tiwary for 45 early in the day. Utkarsh Singh added 40 runs before he was out for 75, and then the innings began to give way. But up stepped Roy – who earlier this season helped Jharkhand to the semis of the Vijay Hazare Trophy – produced an exceptional innings.

From 217/6 he got the score to 390 before he was ninth out, having hit 13 fours and two sixes in his 212-ball hundred. Ashish Kumar, who made 9 off 46 balls, fell in the same over as Jharkhand were bowled out for 390, a lead of 26.

Kumar then trapped Sumiran Amonkar lbw for and by stumps, Goa were 10/1.
