Ishwar Chaudhary's five-wicket haul helped Sikkim secure a big first innings lead over Mizoram in their Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Plate, Round 6 match on Saturday.

Resuming on their overnight score of 321/9, Sikkim added 11 more before being bowled out for 332 in 89.5 overs. In reply, Mizoram lost both their openers to Chaudhary with both being trapped lbw inside 13 overs. Taruwar Kohli and Lalhruaizela led a brief recovery with a 59-run association for the third wicket.
Dinesh Rai, with the scalp of Lalhruaizela on 19 broke the stand and from thereon, began a slide from which Mizoram failed to recover. Kohli watched from one end as wickets kept tumbling at the other.
He waged a lone battle and when he fell on 74 off 150, Mizoram tottering at 148/8.
He was their top scorer followed by opener Akhil Rajput who made 35 off 44. The third best was from Lalhruaizela (19) while the rest eight combined for a grand total of 26 runs. Mizoram conceded a huge 171-run lead after being bowled out for 161 in their first innings.
At the close of play, Sikkim had lost three wickets for 75 and had extended their lead to 246 runs with Asish Thapa (24*) and Karma Bhutia (3*) the two unbeaten batsmen.
