Ranji Trophy: Ashutosh Aman, debutant Mangal Mehrur lead Bihar to big lead

A much-improved second innings from Bihar erased Nagaland‘s lead of 59 and by stumps had put the home team ahead by 196 runs on day two of their seventh round Ranji Trophy 2018-19 Plate Group game in Patna.

Fresh off a 14-wicket haul in the last game against Meghalaya, Ashutosh Aman claimed 7/47 to help bowl Nagaland out for 209, after which Mangal Mehrur (129*) and MD Rahmatullah (55*) put on 100 in 20.4 overs to get Bihar to 255/3.

On debut, Mehrur faced 171 balls and hit 18 fours and a six. Rahmatullah sped to 55 off 56 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes. The pair was joined at 92/1 in the 20th over after Bihar captain Babul Kumar was out lbw for 39 off 53 balls.

Aman’s seven wickets pulled things back from Nagaland, for whom only skipper Rongsen Jonathan managed a fifty, scoring 53 from 124 balls.
