In an inconsequential match, hosts Railways thrashed Maharashtra by an innings and 58 runs in their Ranji Trophy 2018-19 Round 9 Elite A match in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Resuming their first innings at 184/9, captain Mahesh Rawat, overnight on 52, added another 37, while Anureet Singh smashed three sixes and one boundary for his unbeaten 36 off 63 to see Railways to 259. Rawat was dismissed by Satyajeet Bachhav, who completed a brilliant eight-wicket haul. Bachhav returned with excellent figures of eight for 108 in his 36.4 overs.
In reply, Maharashtra were bundled out for 131 as Railways grabbed seven points. It was a complete dismal performance by the visiting side with Bachhav again showing some grit with the bat to top score with 27 off 55. As many as five batsmen departed with single-digit scores.
For Railways, left-arm spinner Avinash Yadav, who claimed four wickets in the first dig, added five more to his tally, to finish the match with 9/109 – his best bowling figures in first-class cricket. Harsh Tyagi – the other young left-arm spinner – returned with figures of 4/29 in his 16.1 overs.
