Karachi: Out-of-favour England batsman Ravi Bopara has expressed his disappointment after being excluded from the national squad for next month’s World Twenty20 in India, saying that he has been playing well in the shortest format of the game and, therefore, deserved to be selected. Bopara, who is currently the leading run-scorer and second highest wicket-taker in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), however, admitted that he needed to keep working on his performance in order to gain selectors’ attention. Despite his omission from the upcoming T20 pinnacle event, the 30-year-old believes that he still have a chance to represent his country in the coming future, PakPassion.net reported. Bopara made 171 appearances for England, where he scored a total of 3981 runs and bagged 57 wickets. The World T20 is slated to be held between March 8 to April 13, with England playing their opening match against West Indies on March 16. Bopara last played an international match in England’s final match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 against Afghanistan. That was the first and only match they managed to win in the entire tournament. England played a series against New Zealand and Australia immediately after the World Cup, but they Bopara did not get selected for those series. England have become much more resurgent and will hope that they can win their second World T20 title this time. Bopara will hopefully find a place in the England team in the upcoming series, given his impressive show in the PSL.
