Ravichandran Ashwin claimed his 100th wicket in Indian Premier League (IPL) during Rising Pune Supergiants’ final match of IPL 2016 against Kings XI Punjab at Visakapatnam on Saturday. He became the sixth bowler to do so after the likes of Lasith Malinga, Amit Mishra, Piyush Chawla, Dwayne Bravo and Harbhajan Singh. Ashwin attained the feat in 111 matches. David Miller to his great unfortunate became Ashwin’s 100th scalp in the IPL. Miller continued his poor run in this ninth edition of IPL as he was dismissed for just seven runs off five balls. Punjab were restricted at 172 for 7 in 20 overs, courtesy of Ashwin’s 4 for 34. Live Cricket Scorecard: Rising Pune Supergiants vs Kings XI Punjab , Live Score, 53rd T20 Match, IPL 2016
In reply, RPS have lost four wickets chasing Punjab’s 173 in 12 overs. Gurkeerat Singh who scored a half-centruy earlier in the day for Punjab has picked two wickets in an over to dismiss set batsmen Saurabh Tiwary and Usman Khawaja, thereby pushing RPS into trouble. The other two wickets have been shared by Akshar Patel and Sandeep Sharma who dismissed George Bailey and Ajinkya Rahane respectively.
Half centuries from Gurkeerat Singh and Murali Vijay ensured Punjab posted a competitive total on board. A total of four Punjab batsmen were dismissed for single digits and barring these two it was only Hashim Amla who was decent with the bat. The other wickets were shared between Ashok Dinda, Thisera Perera and Adam Zampa as all three bagged one wicket each. This match is of no consequence as both the teams are at the bottom of the points table of IPL 2016 and have been already eliminated.
