There are few cricketers who are as good outside the playing field as they are on it. When we bring social media in that purview, Virender Sehwag perfectly fits the bill. The former Indian cricketer has been a smash hit on social media too, often hitting out of the park with his hilarious and intelligent tweets. New Zealand cricketer Jimmy Neesham perhaps comes close second. But ace Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin too is not far behind. He has time and again given ample evidence of his sense of humour and intelligence to silence his critics, especially the unwanted criticism from Twitter trolls.
The tall offie from Chennai often gets involved in debates and discussions with his fans. But if someone tries acting smart with him, he takes no time to floor that person down with his wit and intelligence. On a recent occasion, Ashwin once again silenced a troll, a Bangladesh cricket fan this time, with his yet another intelligent reply. The Tigers’ fans have of late taken a special liking to troll the Indian cricket team and its fans with their vicious and full of hatred tweets. But this poor guy committed a terrible mistake by running into Ashwin, who did not spare him.

It all started with a harmless tweet by Ashwin. By harmless, we mean a tweet which by no means could have offended any Bangladeshi. Ashwin was infuriated by the recent media reports which pitted him against Harbhajan Singh. In the same regards, he wrote through his official Twitter handle:
By pitting players against each other we aren’t going to gain anything but just a juicy headline.Lets respect ppl and keep the game healthy

This tweet garnered an unprovoked reply from a Bangladeshi fan, who unnecessarily brought the ongoing India – New Zealand series into picture by replying to the thread:
@ashwinravi99 If Indian win the series, Indians will be happy. If New Zealand win the series, the world will be happy,
— Raqibul Islam Apurba (@Raqib_Apurba) October 17, 2016
His tweet, which was regarding the ongoing ODI series between India and New Zealand, suggested an outcome in favour of New Zealand will please the entire cricketing fraternity, including Bangladesh, while India’s win will only please the Indians. What happened next was something what the Bangladeshi troll would have never expected, as his entire nation got dragged into it. Ashwin, giving a usual glimpse of his intelligence, wrote:
@Raqib_Apurba India got independence in 1947, nevertheless thank you.
— Ashwin Ravichandran (@ashwinravi99) October 17, 2016
If the poor troll still could not figure out what Ashwin wanted to convey, he should not be blamed. That will not be his fault after all.
