The Indian cricket fans could not have received a better gift on this 70th Independence Day, as Virat Kohli and co. secured historic victory against Sri Lanka in the 3-match Test series. India whitewashed Sri Lanka, as they won the final and the third Test by an innings and 171 runs. A day after the victory, they celebrated the nation’s Independence day – 15th August – by hoisting the national flag at Kandy. Not just that, the players also posted special messages through their social media accounts, including Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and others. The cricketers conveyed respect to the martyrs and their nation, hoping for a better tomorrow. India Eves also were not behind in wishing their nation on this big occasion. Veda Krishnamurthy and Mithali Raj took to their respective Twitter accounts to wish India on Independence Day. However, India’s arch-rivals, Pakistan, had celebrated their Independence Day on Monday.
A video of a group of Indian students singing the Pakistan national anthem went viral a day ahead of their Independence Day, while Shahid Afridi’s message on peace and prosperity on India’s national day lit up Tuesday morning. Saqlain Mushtaq also wished the Indians on this special eve. Former Australian cricketers Michael Clarke and Matthew Hayden wished the Indians. Hayden posted a translated version of the Indian national anthem, while Clarke wished by posting a picture with his Indian friends. India won their Independence on 15th August, 1947, after existing as a British colony for about 200 years. Here’s how India is celebrating their Independence Day.
