The duo added 178 for the opening wicket at Nagpur against Australia during India's chase of 351 in the sixth ODI.

The duo equaled the record set by Taufeeq Umar and Saleem Elahi of Pakistan against Zimbabwe. Umar-Elahi added 159 for the opening stand at Queens Park, Bulawayo and in the next game put on 154 at Harare Sports Club in November 2002.

Rohit and Dhawan had put 176 at Sawi Mansingh Stadium on October 16, 2013. Rohit and Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 141 and 100 respectively. Had Dhawan scored five more runs (he was dismissed for 95) that would have been a world record — of three batsmen scoring tons in the same ODI innings.
