Sachin Tendulkar congratulates Leander Paes, Martina Hingis on winning mixed doubles title in US Open 2015

Former India player Sachin Tendulkar took to social media to wish Leander Paes and Martina Hingis on winning the US Open 2015 in mixed doubles final. The duo of Paes and Hingis beat the American pair of Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sam Querrey 6-4 3-6 10-7 in the final. Paes has now won nine mixed doubles final, surpassing his former partner Mahesh Bhupathi’ eight titles. The Indo-Swiss pair of Paes and Hingis become the only pair since 1969 to have won three Grand Slams in the same year. They have already won the Wimbledon and Australian Open earlier this year. Tendulkar said, “Congratulations Leander Paes and Martina Hingis on winning the Mixed Doubles US Open Tennis Championships. Well done Leander on the incredible spirit and effort you have shown in defying the barrier of age!”, according to his Official Facebook page.

Hingis is also in contention for the Women’s doubles as she teams up with India tennis star Sania Mirza, wife of Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik. Tendulkar is an avid fan of tennis and has been often spotted at the Royal Box at the Wimbledon. He was present at the event even this year along with other cricket stars like Sourav Ganguly and current Indian Test captain Virat Kohli.
