Scotland registered a thrilling six-wicket win against hosts, Ireland and win the three-match T20I series 2-0 at Bready on Saturday. Twin string knocks of 48 and 47 from Matthew Cross and Preston Mommsen was enough to see Scotland home.
Earlier, Scotland skipper, Mommsen won the toss and elected to field first as Ireland set an average target of 167, piling on Andy Balbrine, Andrew Poynter and Kevin O’Brien‘s good knock. Scotland’s Con de Lange and Alasdair Evans made way for Gavin Main and Safyaan Sharif. While for Ireland, it was George Dockerell, Balbirnie and Alex Cusack came in for Max Sorensen, David Rankin and Andrew McBrine. SCORECARD: Ireland vs Scotland, 3rd T20I at Bready
During the chase, Scotland too were off to a shaky start as they lost George Munsey to Tyrone Kane in the very second ball of their innings. However, the next pair of Kyle Coetzer and Cross put up a commanding 73-run stand for the second wicket. Both scored 34 and 48 respectively, before falling to George Dockrell. Following Cross’s dismissal at the score of 87 in 10th over, it was Michael Leask, who arrived to score a paltry 13 runs before getting dismissed to Dockrell again and was bowled by him at the score of 100. It was then the pair of Ricchie Berrington and Mommsen, who played the rest of the game out, scoring the required 67 runs and comfortably win the game by six wickets, with 11 balls to spare.
