Cheteshwar Pujara has said that he didn’t expect that he would captain a side that would feature the likes of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan. Pujara would be captaining India A against West Indies A and the three seniors are in the squad.
Speaking to the Indian Express, Pujara said, “I never thought so. We all have seen them since childhood and they have been role models for all of us. They know their job well and I don’t have to tell anything to them. Having them in the side itself is a morale booster and I’m sure I will learn something from them as will others in the side.”
Pujara also said that this is a formidable side he would be leading and has said that the seniors’ presence would only help him as far as strategizing is concerned. He said, “Their presence will make my work easier in fact. I will be able to rely on their inputs and experience in tough situations.”
Pujara also said that he wants to build on their good tour to South Africa recently and wants to use this outing to get into his rhythm ahead of the international season.
