The cricket festival is going on in the Caribbean at the moment. While Team India has arrived on the Caribbean shores for a four-Test series, the entire nation is engrossed in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The superstar-laden Jamaica Tallawahs (JT) took on the Martin Guptill-led Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) on Thursday.
GAW invited the Chris Gayle-led JT to bat, and the Jamaican giant was dismissed off the first ball. Even the great Kumar Sangakkara could contribute with just nine. JT were struggling at 36 for 3 in the eighth over with Rovman Powell and Shakib Al Hasan at the crease. READ MORE: Watch Lendl Simmons bat with a solitary pad in CPL 2016
The match was played under humid conditions and the fifth ball from pacer Steven Jacobs was something unusual. The ball slipped out from Jacob’s palm and lobbed over the keeper’s head. The ball went too high in the air and the surprised batsman ran a single. The commentator called it a “moon ball”.
Surprisingly, the umpire called it a ‘dead ball’. According to the game’s rules, it should have been a ‘no-ball’ and JT were denied a ‘free-hit’. Shakib was not at all happy with the decision and protested to the umpire. ALSO READ: Umpire Bruce Oxenford takes field with an armguard to protect himself from brutal RCB batting
We do not know if that would have changed JT’s fortunes or not, as they were dismal with the bat and were bowled out for 100. GAW marched to a seven-wicket victory.
