In the aftermath of the first Test at Cape Town against Australia which was dominated by fast bowlers, the South African skipper Graeme Smith has backed his leg-spinner Imran Tahir and has said that the tweaker wouldn t be dropped for the second Test against Australia at Johannesburg.

Tahir made his Test debut at Cape Town and couldn t pick up a wicket on the fast bowlers paradise. Smith said that the Newlands pitch wasn t suited for spin bowling.

He added, “Imran’s first Test would have been good for his self-confidence and he will continue to grow into his new role.

“He has already learnt a lot from the couple of overs he bowled, but the overhead conditions and batting service offered very little assistance – while the seamers were able to cash in.”
