In the aftermath of the first Test at Cape Town against Australia which was dominated by fast bowlers, the South African skipper Graeme Smith has backed his leg-spinner Imran Tahir and has said that the tweaker wouldn’t be dropped for the second Test against Australia at Johannesburg.

Tahir made his Test debut at Cape Town and couldn’t pick up a wicket on the fast bowlers’ paradise. Smith said that the Newlands’ pitch wasn’t suited for spin bowling.

He added, “Imran’s first Test would have been good for his self-confidence and he will continue to grow into his new role.

“He has already learnt a lot from the couple of overs he bowled, but the overhead conditions and batting service offered very little assistance – while the seamers were able to cash in.”
