Somerset County Cricket Club, England has made its new pavilion public. The estimated cost for building this pavilion was £3.8 million. With this, they are now ready to host their first international matches starting from 2017. The first match that they will host will be a T20I between England and South Africa. The building has ample space and houses five executive suites on the first floor. Each suite has the capacity to accommodate 20 people. There is also dining hall. The ground is visible from all the rooms. There is a terrace on the second floor. There is a wooden covering which shelters the terrace from rain. There are also press rooms, a radio room and a box for the scorers. READ: Chris Rogers signs up for English County team Somerset
In a conversation with Western Daily Press, Chairman of the club, Andy Nash said, “Today is a very significant day for everyone who loves Somerset and is part of it. The Somerset Pavilion not only represents a huge improvement in the facilities we can offer at Taunton, but also concretes our Category B status – and that means international cricket coming to Taunton. It won’t be long until we’re saying that England are playing here next year.” ALSO READ: Harold Gimblett’s incredible debut for Somerset
Meanwhile, Guy Lavender, chief executive of the club said, “The whole of next season will be focused on getting ready for the international. And we are going to invest significantly more in our talent investment programme. We do invest in that anyway, but we want to grow our own talent, particularly from our neighbouring counties, and supplement that only from the very best, whether nationally or internationally. We are investing in more coaching, and better scouting, locally and internationally. We need to maintain a core of a Somerset-born and bred side. If you move too far away from that, you lose some of the heart.”
