Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian captain and current joint secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is in favour of preparing green tops for Bengal’s domestic home games in the ongoing cricket season. Bengal are currently playing their Zonal leg of domestic one-day tournament, Vijay Hazare trophy. All the wickets which are prepared for this tournament are uncovered green tracks. The players from various East Zone teams, including the Bengal cricketers are not happy with this kind of tracks, but according to Ganguly, this is the way forward.

The former India captain feels a player can get matured while playing in this kind of wickets, rather than the flat tracks. Scoring a gutsy 40 in wickets where the ball is doing a bit is valued more than a hundred in the batsman’s friendly track. Talking with the media recently, Ganguly even hinted for similar kinds of 22 yards will be prepared for Bengal’s Ranji Trophy 2014-15 home games as well. It will be interesting to see Bengal’s performance on theses tracks in the ongoing Vijay Hazare, as well as in the upcoming Ranji Trophy, where they are placed in a tough group with teams like Karnataka, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu etc.
