After much persuasion, South Africa have agreed to play with pink-ball for the proposed Adelaide day-night Test to be held on November 2016. Reports suggest, Proteas have changed their thoughts on playing with pink-ball and have ensured two-day night Tests in coming Australian summer. Earlier, South Africa were against day-night fixtures because of the visibility concerns on pink-ball in twilight. An official announcement regarding the same is expected to happen shortly from Cricket Australia (CA). James Sutherland, CA’s cheif executive was confident the breakthrough would have happen soon and the results are out finally. ALSO READ: Gabba to host Test cricket for next 3 years
A CA source spoke to Herald Sun and said, “We remain optimistic that the Adelaide Test match will be played as a day-night match. After the success of last summer’s Adelaide Test, the anticipation in that market is huge.” As per Sutherland’s statement on April, he mentioned, “I had some separate conversations with colleagues from Cricket South Africa and the South African Players’ Association and I maintain my position that I continue to be optimistic about the Adelaide Test match being played as a day/night Test match.” ALSO READ: Gillespie not interested in joining AUS’ coaching staff
After tremendous success from last November’s day0night Test between Australia and New Zealand, Sutherland was keen to have Two day-night Tests for 2016-17 Australian summer. This breakthrough means the Test will be held November at Adelaide against South Africa ahead of the three-Test series between Australia and Pakistan in December, which will also be played with pink-ball.
