South African skipper Hashim Amla is delighted after his team’s massive victory over Australia on Sunday. South Africa leveled the three-match ODI series with a 80-run win at Port Elizabeth.
A jubilant Amla was quoted in Sports 24 as saying, “This is the way we have played cricket over the last few years and it’s taken us a while to get there. It’s been a bit erratic at times.”
Amla also praised the brilliant 142-run partnership between veteran Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith. He said, “I’m not too sure if it was a 300 wicket, probably a 250-par score but those partnerships built it up.
“Everyone knows Graeme and the amount of work he puts in and the desire he has. When he is playing well, we usually get good starts.
“JP has a lot of experience. He assessed the situation, saw David was playing well so he didn’t have to force the pace. We know at the back end of the game he is very aggressive, he’s got fantastic hands and lovely scoring areas.”
Amla also hoped that South Africa’s top-order batting carries good form from the second ODI 80-run victory over Australia on Sunday to the final at Durban on Friday.
“In the last game we lacked partnerships but the boys came back and showed what we’re capable of. The bowlers responded beautifully as well. There is all to play for in Durban now.” he concluded.
