West Indies were handed a massive blow early in their innings when Kyle Abbott dismissed hard-hitting batsman Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels in quick succession, with West Indies struggling at 16 for two in their fourth over during their ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 match against South Africa at Sydney on Friday. While Gayle missed the line of the delivery completely after attempting to make room for himself, resulting in the ball hitting his middle-stump, Samuels ended up edging the the Abbott delivery to the wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock. Both Gayle and Samuels had shared a 372-run stand against Zimbabwe during their previous Pool B game, which broke the world record for the highest partnership in One-Day Internationals (ODI). South Africa had earlier finished on 408 for the loss of five wickets, with skipper AB de Villiers scoring a whirlwind 162 off 66 balls, reachingseveral milestones during his innings. De Villiers reached his century in a mere 51 deliveries, which turned out to be the all-time second-fastest World Cup century. He also smashed the fastest 150 in ODIs. The innings was also propelled by half-centuries from Hashim Amla (65), Faf du Plessis (62) and Rilee Rossouw (62). West Indies skipper Jason Holder conceded the second-most expensive figures by a bowler in a World Cup by conceding 104 runs from 10 overs while taking a wicket.
