Zimbabwe batsman Vusi Sibanda has been left out of the national squad for the New Zealand tour after he was involved in an altercation with cricket authorities.
The Zimbabwean selectors did not include Sibanda’s name in the 16-man squad for the NZ tour to be held in January and February.
It was reported in Stuff.co.nz that the altercation between the batsman and the cricket authorities was over his participation in league cricket in Australia.
Zimbabwe Cricket in a statement clarified, “Sibanda was not selected for the traveling party as the selectors upheld the ZC Cricket Committee policy which states that to be eligible for national selection, one has to be contracted to play domestic cricket in Zimbabwe.
At the beginning of the season, Sibanda was offered a ZC contract which he declined in favor of one to play Grade Cricket in Australia.”
Sibanda will be replaced by middle-order batsman Stuart Matsikenyeri, who will return to the squad after a span of two years.
Zimbabwe squad for New Zealand tour:
Brendan Taylor (c), Hamilton Masakadza, Tinotenda Mawoyo, Tatenda Taibu, Malcolm Waller, Ray Price, Elton Chigumbura, Regis Chakabva, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Foster Mutizwa, Prosper Utseya, Graeme Cremer, Keegan Meth, Kyle Jarvis.
