Still bleak in Colombo. The second session has been washed out and tea has been taken.

  • 2:12 PM IST

Not a good update from the P Sara Oval. It remains gloomy and the rain has increased. We may not see any more play today.

A light drizzle continues at the P Sara Oval. Will update on the resumption.

Would you believe it? Like Trent Boult earlier, Tim Southee gets two wickets in an over and Sri Lanka slump to 130/6. Southee gets the big wicket of Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne for 65.

WICKET! Tim Southee strikes to get Dimuth Karunaratne caught behind for 65 and Sri Lanka slip to 130/5

Would you believe it? Trent Boult, one of the best fielders in the sport, has put down a caught-and-bowled chance. He hustled Dhananjaya de Silva with a shortish delivery but the top edge is spilled. Boult is on his knees in disbelief. What a slice of luck for de Silva?

  • 11:03 AM IST

What a way for Trent Boult to get to 250 Test wickets!

A double-wicket maiden over accounts for Angelo Mathew, caught down the leg side off a short ball, and Kusal Perera for 0 as he shouldered arms to an inswinger.

This has left Sri Lanka 93/4 on day two.
  • 10:29 AM IST

Play is starting. The revised timings for today are 10:30am to 12:45pm for the morning session, 1:25pm to 3:25pm for the second session and 3:45pm to 5:45 for the last session. This is, of course, all dependant on the weather.

  • 9:56 AM IST

Still no start of play. Hopefully soon. No rain.

Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 2nd Test live score, live updates

Just 36.3 overs were bowled on day one of the second Test between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at the P Sara Oval, after heavy rain in the morning forced a three-hour delay.

Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne won the toss and opted to bat, and when an early stumps was called on Thursday he was batting on 49 from 100 balls with his team 85/2.

A late wicket from seam-bowling allrounder Colin de Grandhomme justified his addition in New Zealand’s playing XI at the expense of Mitchell Santer, and gave the Black Caps a sliver of hope on a frustrating opening day.

The forecast in Colombo is for further rain today. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson yesterday displayed his displeasure when the match officials were slow to return the players to the field after the tea interval when the rain had stopped.
