England fast bowler Steven Finn had kick-started his ICC World Cup 2015 with a five-for (including a hat-trick) against Australia. Just over two years down the line, the England limited-overs setup has no place for him. Ignored for ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Finn had recently expressed disappointment, as he believed he still has a lot to offer in the 50-over format. However, he accepted the fact that he had been below par in West Indies. The tall fast bowler now hopes to impress selectors during the two-match ODI against Ireland.
“These matches [against Ireland] are an opportunity,” Finn was quoted in a report from Reuters. “They are going to be hard-fought … they are an opportunity for me to remind England that I am still there are ready to go if they need me at any stage.” ALSO READ: ICC Champions Trophy 2017: All team squads
Finn was overlooked while Mark Wood, Liam Plunkett, David Willey, Jake Ball, Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes were the favoured pacers for the side in Champions Trophy that will be played in England next month.
Finn continues to be a crucial part of England’s Test squad and over the years he had to deal with infrequent selections — though that did not prevent him from forcing ICC to change their no-ball rule.
Finn, now 28, added: “At the moment I am in and out and that is something that just happens as you go through your career. You will have peaks and troughs in form and when you are on the periphery of England all the time, you just have to deal with the disappointments, which sometimes can be hard to take — it is just the way it goes.”
England will play the ODIs against Ireland on Friday and Sunday.
