Stuart Broad has been named captain of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in the annual Champion County Match against County Championship winners Surrey in Dubai next month.
The annual fixture, which pits the reigning county title-holders against an ensemble of cricketers under the umbrella of the MCC, is the curtain-raiser for each English season. The match is slated to start on March 24. (READ MORE:Surrey claim 2018 County Championship title)
Broad, currently playing for England in the West Indies, will link up with the MCC squad after the third Test ends this week. The MCC will confirm the rest of the squad soon.
The previous Champion County Match was held in Barbados, where the MCC beat 2017 County Championship winner Essex by an innings and 34 runs.
John Stephenson, Assistant Secretary (Cricket) at MCC, said in a statement: “We are thrilled that Stuart has agreed to captain the side for the Champion County match against Surrey. He is not only a player of the very highest class, but his experience of over 100 Test matches will be invaluable to the younger players in the squad, and I am sure that they will be eager to learn from one of England’s greatest ever bowlers.
