The Rajkot Franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has picked up local boy Ravindra Jadeja followed by his former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammate Suresh Raina. New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum was the first foreign player to be signed up and he went for the Rajkot franchise as well. It is still unknown as to who will lead this team, but in all likelihood it could be Jadeja, who hails from Rajkot. Rajkot and Pune were formed after CSK and Rajasthan Royals (RR) were given a two-year ban from participating in the IPL for their role in the match-fixing scandal. Mumbai Indians won the previous edition of the tournament, but the arrival of two new teams could turn out to be fresh competition for them and the rest of the teams in the tournament. Saurashtra batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has welcomed the arrival of the Rajkot franchise. He says, “I think it’s a very good news for all the cricketers and people in Rajkot and Gujarat because it’s a great opportunity for young cricketers. All the young cricketers will get a lot of encouragement because they have an opportunity and if they perform well in domestic matches, they have a chance to be part of the Rajkot franchise,” Pujara told ANI.
