Unmukt Chand struck a fluent 70, while Subodh Bhati pocketed four wickets as Delhi beat Andhra by 32 runs in a Syed Mushtaq Ali 2019 Group A Round 5 match at Vijayawada on Wednesday.
Batting first, the 25-year-old Chand went berserk, smashing six huge hits over the fence and four boundaries in his 70-run knock that came in just 35 deliveries. Lalit Yadav added 31 off 19. Nitish Rana had an off day as he departed for just 1 off Hanuma Vihari as Delhi finished at 175/8 after 20 overs. (ALSO READ: Wriddhiman Saha smashes 62-ball 129, Bengal win by 107 runs)
In reply, Andhra struggled to get going. Captain Ishant Sharma struck first blood to send his opposite number Vihari for a three-ball four runs. None of the batsmen failed to register any significant contribution. Srikar Bharat, who scored 41 in Andhra’s previous match against Jammu and Kashmir, added a run-a-ball 14. Shoaib Mohammad Khan remained unbeaten on 26 as Andhra folded for 143 in 19.3 overs. (ALSO READ: Shubman Gill stars as Punjab beat Sikkim to register first win)
Bhati returned with figures of four for 27 in 3.3 overs, while Ishant and Lalit Yadav snapped two apiece. Delhi’s fourth win of the tournament takes them to the No. 2 spot, while Andhra have slipped to No. 5 after losing their third game.
Brief scores: Delhi 175/8 (Unmukt Chand 70; Bandaru Ayyappa 2/36) beat Andhra 143 all out in 19.3 overs (Ashwin Hebbar 38; Subodh Bhati 4/27, Ishant Sharma 2/17, Lalit Yadav 2/21) by 32 runs
