Kedar Devdhar’s fifty leads Baroda to four-wicket win over Puducherry

With their third win, Baroda occupy the fifth place in the eight-team group, while Puducherry, who have lost their fourth game, are just above bottom-place Tripura.

Captain Kedar Devdhar’s 51 lead from the front as Baroda beat Puducherry by four wickets in a Syed Mushtaq Ali 2019 Group E Round 5 match at the Palam Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.

With their third win, Baroda occupy the fifth place in the eight-team group, while Puducherry, who have lost their fourth game, are just above bottom-place Tripura.

Chasing a below par 127, opener Devdhar held fort as wickets kept falling at regular intervals at the other end. His partner Mitesh Patel fell for 12 off 13 after he was cleaned up by Pratik Sargade in the fourth over. The talented Deepak Hooda failed to take over after slamming one six in his 13 off 9, while veteran T20 campaigner Yusuf Pathan departed for just 3. Devdhar, who tonked six boundaries in his 48-ball 51, was trapped lbw by Pankaj Singh in the 18th over with Baroda still having to score another 18 runs for victory. Earlier, after opting to bat, Puducherry were restricted to 126/5. Paras Dogra top scored with 41, while captain Damodaren Rohit added 37. For Baroda, left-arm pacer Lukman Meriwala snapped two for 22 in his four overs.
