While Ricky Bhui’s whirlwind 108 off 42 helped Andhra post the second highest total in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy history (244/4), the bowlers, lead by KV Sasikanth, bundled out Nagaland for 65, thus registering a record 179-run win in Round 2 Group A match at the Devineni Venkata Ramana Praneetha Ground, Mulapadu on Friday.
The victory margin is now the highest in terms of runs in all T20 matches, surpassing the 172-run margin registered by Sri Lanka against Kenya at Johannesburg in 2007.
Yesterday, Bengal had beaten Mizoram by 159 runs, which now is the fifth highest victory margin in terms of runs in T20s.
Bhui, who equalled the second fastest century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, in 38 balls added 150 runs in just ten overs with Girinath Reddy (62 off 31 balls) after skipper Hanuma Vihari had scored a 44 off 34 balls. During his knock Bhui hit five fours and ten sixes.
Fellow opener Ashwin Hebbar missed out scoring 15 off nine balls, before falling to Rachit Bhatia. Vihari was scalped by Tahmeed Rahman, before Bhui and Reddy took the attack to the Nagaland bowlers.
However, there was no respite for Nagaland as, after the run out of opener Sedezhalie Rupero for four in the third over, right-arm pacer Sasikanth took three wickets in one over removing other opener Nitesh Lochab (8) and two outstation players in KB Pawan (0) and Abrar Kazi (0).
Paras Sehrawat made 13 before falling to debutant legspinner, 16-year-old, Shaik Ismail as Nagaland found themselves down and out at 32/5. Skipper Rongsen Jonathan hung around for a while scoring 30 off 25 before India international Karn Sharma and Ismail polished off the tail. Sharma returned 3/14 in 3.1 overs while Ismail picked 3/25 in his four. Sasikanth finished with 3/8 in his two overs.
Brief Scores: Andhra 244/4 (Ricky Bhui 108, Girinath Reddy 62; Rachit Bhatia 2/44) beat Nagaland 65 (Rongsen Jonathan 30; KV Sasikanth 3/8)
