The match was reduced to 15-overs-a-side with Haryana opting to field at the Barabati Stadium. Sumit Kumar took 4/20 as Assam struggled their way to 80/9.
In reply, Haryana were off to a good start but lost both their openers off consecutive deliveries in the third over. However, that wasn’t going to be enough for Assam considering the small target they had set their opponents.
Yashu Sharma (26) and Sumit Kumar added 38 runs to take them to 68 and just 13 runs adrift of the target. Jitumoni Kalita bowled Yashu to break the partnership but Rahul Tewatia struck a four and a six in his unbeaten 11 off 4 to as Haryana chase down the target in just 8.4 overs.
Earlier, Assam innings never gathered the momentum post the dismissal of openers Rishav Das and Pallvkumar Das in consecutive deliveries. Rishav was run out on 7 while Pallvkumar was bowled by Jayant Yadav off the following delivery for run-a-ball 22.
They had slipped to 36/4 before captain Amit Sinha (11) and Riyan Parag (17) tried to repair the extensive damage through a 24-run partnership. Their departure in the space of one run resulted in another collapse as Sumit ran through Assam batting line-up.
