Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 Group E Round 7

Karnataka maintained their dominance in the Group E of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 after beating Haryana by 14 runs in their final round match on Saturday.

After being restricted to a below par 138/9, Karnataka bowlers stepped up with Shreyas Gopal taking a hat-trick as Haryana were bowled out for 124 in 19.1 overs.

The thrilling tie saw Haryana launching a remarkable comeback after being in tatters at 58/8. Sumit Kumar counterattacked with 40-ball 63 to reignite his team’s hopes of a win before being dismissed as the final batsman by Prasidh Krishna (3/25) off the first delivery of 20th over.

Krishna had gotten rid of both Haryana openers in his first two overs to leave them 16/2 in 3.5 overs. They didn’t recover from the twin blows as they lost half their side inside 10 overs.

Gopal (3/16) than all but ended their hopes by picking up a hat-trick in his first over of the innings. He accounted for Nitin Saini (15), Jayant Yadav (0) and Amit Mishra (0) off the third, fourth and fifth delivery of the 11th over.
From thereon, Sumit resurrected the chase hitting eight fours and three sixes adding another twist in the tale but couldn’t prevent the defeat.

Karnataka had been put in to bat at the DRIEMS Ground in Cuttack. Amit Mishra (3/26) and Arun Chaprana (3/29) shared six wickets between, not allowing them to run away with the game.

Openers Rohan Kadam (25) and BR Sharath (16) had led a solid start with a 40-run partnership in 5.5 overs. Sumit (2/23) provided the first breakthrough as Karnataka slipped to 86/4 from 40/0.

Skipper Manish Pandey (25) and Jagadeesha Suchith (17) pushed them to a respectable total which proved 13 runs too many for their opponents.
