India are touring South Africa for their first tour of the year. India had decided to go ahead without a practice match. Now they were forced to practice indoor at Newlands, Cape Town due to rains. This is the same venue where the first match is scheduled for. The official instagram account of Team India posted a photo with a caption ‘And we’ve moved indoors for training session #TeamIndia.’

Assistant coach Sanjay Bangar was inspecting the outfield while Shikhar Dhawan was seen putting in some yards.

India were supposed to play a warm-up game ahead of the first Test. However, skipper Virat Kohli insisted on just a couple of practice sessions: “You are never sure whether you are getting quality practice games or not. We would rather have practice sessions that are in our control. If you look at the wicket we are playing on right now, it’s not even going to be 15 per cent of what we will get in the game.

“There is no point wasting two days, guys going in, scoring quick fifties and coming out. We would rather have them do two sessions like today (Saturday), get into the Test match zone and test ourselves.”
