Chasing a target of 166, Albert TUTI Patriots registered a 6-wicket victory over VB Thiruvallur Veerans in Match No. 19 of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2017. At the Indian Cement Company Ground, Tirunelveli, Veerans batted first to put up a competitive 165 for 4 but could not defend it as the Patriots eased their way to the victory with 5 balls still at hand. With the win, the Patriots occupy the top spot in the points table with six victories from six matches while Veerans drop to No. 4 position with two wins from the five they played. Winning the toss, the Veerans elected to bat. Though they lost the wicket of opener NS Chaturved in the very first over, Sanjay Yadav played a big knock of a 50-ball 61 to hold one end of the innings. With captain Baba Aparajith, who scored 58, Yadav built up the biggest partnership of the innings which pushed the score past 140. For the Patriots, M Ganesh Moorthi was the pick of the bowlers with a couple of wickets.
Chasing the target, Washington Sundar and Kaushik Gandhi gave the Patriots the perfect start with a partnership that added 47 runs. Once Sundar was dismissed for 38, Gandhi partnered with skipper Dinesh Karthik to form the next big partnership. Gandhi remained unbeaten till the end, scoring 52 off 42 balls and took his side to the required runs. Rahil Shah and R Silambarasan were the only successful bowlers for the Veerans with a couple of wickets each.
