Murali Vijay’s tryst with bad luck continues as the TNPL encounter between Lyca Kovai Kings and Madurai Super Giant was abandoned due to wet outfield. Vijay, who was leading the Kovai Kings for the clash on Thursday, was eager to go after his prolong absence from the game. Vijay last played the series against Australia. Since, he missed IPL 2017 and has featured only in TNCA first division league match last month. It was then when the pain in his right wrist resurfaced and ruled him out of the ongoing Sri Lanka series. Shikhar Dhawan was called as a replacement for the Tests opener. Shikhar Dhawan replaces injured Murali Vijay for India’s tour of Sri Lanka 2017

Vijay did mention that he still is not completely fit and wants to take TNPL as a medium to build on his fitness, “It’s an absolute pleasure to get back into action. To be honest, I do not feel 100 per cent yet, but mentally I am up there. Hopefully, I can start from the TNPL and build from there on. Once I am fully fit, I will be informing the BCCI,” Vijay told Cricbuzz. Vijay also cleared that formats do not matter to build up on fitness of a cricketer. Vijay is more of a prominent name in Test cricket. His focus was more on the return to the Indian squad, “For me, format doesn’t matter. My injuries are not under my control. I just want to be fit and play cricket. As everyone has seen, my career has been one-dimensional so far. I obviously want to enhance it.”
