Thalaivan Sargunam’s patient half-century helped Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) register a 6-wicket victory over Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) in Match No. 8 of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2017. At the MA Chidambaram Stadiium, Chennai on Saturday, LKK won the toss and batted first to put up part score of 146 for 8 in their 20 over. The chase seemed an easy one for the home team as the batsmen kept on building successive partnerships to reach the target with one over still at hand. With the victory, CSG remain unbeaten in both their matches and sit on top of the points table. READ: MS Dhoni smokes 3 consecutive sixes in TNPL
A single-handed effort came from LKK’s Laxmesha Suryaprakash who put up 46 off 43 while most of his batting partners departed for 20ish scores. Down the order, M Mohammed’s 12-ball 26 was a handy contribution which added some crucial runs as well some fireworks with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Joel Joseph was the pick of the bowlers for CSG, with his 2 for 29.
CSG built a strong 66-run opening stand which set the stage for their comfortable run-chase. Hari Gopinath departed for 37 while Sargunam later built another partnership with Uthirasamy Sasidev ( 31 off 20, 3 fours and 1 six) to see his side through. Jamaluddin Mohammad was the most successful bowler for LKK with his 2 for 18 but his efforts went it vain as the bowlers had too little to defend.
Brief scores:
Lyka Kovai Kings 146 for 8 in 20 overs (Laxmesha Suryaprakash 46, M Mohammed 26; Joel Joseph 2 for 29) lost to Chepauk Super Gillies 149 for 4 in 19 overs (Hari Gopinath 37, Thalaivan Sargunam 52*, Uthirasamy Sasidev 31; Jamaluddin Mohammad 2 for 18) by 6 wickets.
