Pakistan’s Aleem Dar, who was adjudged the best umpire for the third year running by the International Cricket Council (ICC), says the secret of his success is his honesty and his concentration on the game.

“It is a hard job for an umpire, particularly when technology is also at work,” Aleem was quoted as saying by Pakistan media.

He said the award was not only an honour for him, but also for the entire nation.

Aleem said all efforts should be made to bring international cricket back to Pakistan as the lack of it on security grounds has damaged the game within the country.

“Without international cricket, it is difficult to produce talented players and umpires,” he said.

Aleem appealed to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to introduce a central contract system for the umpires like in other cricket-playing nations.

Aleem has officiated in 67 Tests, 146 one-dayers and 18 Twenty20 matches. He said that along with right decisions, the report of captains also mattered a lot.

“The captains of most of the teams trust me and report about me positively. These things also matter a lot in officiating confidently and coming up with right decisions,” he said.

He said top teams of the world always wish to have him as an umpire “and that’s a great honour for me”.
