Hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) were bundled for a paltry total of 202 against visitors Ireland in the second and final One-Day International (ODI) at the ICC Global Cricket Academy in Dubai on Saturday. Shaiman Anwar and Rameez Shahzad were the top scorers for UAE, scoring 48 and 41, respectively; while for Ireland, it was Craig Young and Andy McBrine, who claimed three wickets each, along with George Dockrell and Jacob Mulder claiming a couple of wickets each. Earlier, UAE skipper Rohan Mustafa won the coin toss, and elected to bat first, as both the teams went ahead with a balanced squad for this tie. UAE started their innings on a shaky note, with opener Mohammad Naveed falling for mere four to Young in the second over, at the score of 15. Just nine runs later, he was followed by wicketkeeper-batsman Ghulam Shabber, who fell for a mere single to McBrine in the fifth over. Mustafa too was struggling to bat, and at the score of 43, he too fell for mere 17 to McBrine in the ninth over. It was then the pair of Shaiman and Rameez Shahzad, who put up a strong 73-run stand for the fourth wickets. However, just when it seemed Shaiman would score his half-century, he was dismissed on 48 by Dockrell in the 28th over, as the score read 119 for 4. It was 26 runs later, when his partner Rameez Shahzad too fell for a healthy 41 to the same man in the 33rd over. Partnerships became difficult to be build up following Rameez Shahzad’s dismissal, as at the score of 166, it was Adnan Mufti, who fell for mere 15 to McBrine in the 40th over. Just 12 runs later, it was Ahmed Raza, who fell for a mere single to Mulder in the 43rd over.
The next over saw the dismissal of Muhammad Usman for 29 to Young at the score of 178, while just four runs later, it was Amjad Javed, who too fell for a mere single to Mulder in the 45th over, and Zahoor Khan was the final man to be dismissed in the 48th over for mere 16, as UAE were bundled for 202, while Ireland were set a target of 203 to win the series, which should be an easy task for the visitors.
Brief scores:
UAE 202 in 47.5 overs (Shaiman Anwar 48*, Rameez Shahzad 41*; Andy McBrine 3 for 42, Craig Young 3 for 48) vs Ireland.
