UAE women successfully defended their title in GCC T20 women’s tournament final at Doha, Qatar. Qatar women won the toss and decided to bat first but was bundled out for a paltry 47. UAE successfully chased down the total in nine overs and three balls itself with half of their side yet to bat. Thus, they won the match by five wickets and 63 balls remaining. Heena Hotchandani bagged player of the match award for her brilliant bowling. She took four wickets and gave just five runs in the endeavour. She was well supported by Ayesha Naushad Khan whose bowling figures read three for four. Qatar cricketer Hiral Agarwal was awarded player of the series for her all-round performance with both bat and ball. She scored 86 runs and bagged three wickets. Qatar’s Nazia Tabassum was declared best bowler of the tournament for her seven wickets. UAE coach Mohammad Hyder was quoted by Emirates247.com as saying, “It was an amazing victory for the girls and defending it was even more special. This is the result of extensive training sessions and the practice games that the team underwent in the run up to the tournament.
Meanwhile, ECB administrator Mazhar Khan said, “As part of our Women’s development plan, Emirates Cricket Board intends to hold the next Gulf Cup in UAE next year, where we intend to invite teams from Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore along with Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The intention is to develop our quality of cricket while playing better ranked teams.”
