Pakistan were 324-5 at the end of the first Day’s play against Somerset in the 3-Day practice match. Having won the toss and electing to bat, the Pakistan opening duo of Mohammad Hafeez and Shan Masood were off to a decent start. But Paul van Meekeren then sent Hafeez back to the pavilion for just 20. Hafeez had although hit 2 sixes and a four in his innings. Azhar Ali then came out to bat. He along with Masood carried on the innings. The duo were just starting to look dangerous but then Meekeren again produced the breakthrough for Somerset. Ali was out LBW for 26. Shan Masood did reach his half-century but was then picked up by Tim Groenewald. READ: Younis Khan, Asad Shafiq take Pakistan out of danger against Somerset
Pakistan fans were in for a shock when Misbah-Ul-Haq was out for a duck. Misbah was caught by Harry Rouse as Groenewald picked up his 2nd wicket. Asad Shafiq and Younis Khan then put on a long partnership to put the game firmly in favour of the visitors. The pair added 179 runs for the 5th wicket. Both the players reached their half-centuries and hit plenty of boundaries in their innings. Shafiq was the last wicket to fall on Day 1 as Jack Leach picked up his wicket and he was back in the pavilion for a well made 80. Sarfraz Ahmed was at the crease alongside Younis Khan who was batting at 99 not out at Stumps on Day 1. Pakistan will look to continue and pile up a big score on Day 2. Howevere, Day 2 promises more excitement as eyes will also be on left-arm pacer Mohammad Aamer who is making a reurn to Test cricket.
