Rishabh Pant’s doles out words of wisdom to Pat Cummins

Young Rishabh Pant has been making a lot of noises. Literally. In the ongoing Adelaide Test against Australia, the young wicketkeeper has been giving an earful to the Aussie batsmen in an effort to break their concentration as India move closer towards a historic win.

On the fifth and final day of the series opener, Fox Cricket, the host broadcaster, turned off their commentary, allowing their viewers to have a listen to Pant’s verbal volleys from behind the stumps.

During an entire over of India offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin, Pant could be heard loud and clear ‘encouraging’ his good friend and former IPL teammate Pat Cummins to go for big shots against Ashwin.

While his actions have been left social media users amused, India batting legend Sunil Gavaskar thought it wasn’t in his team’s best interest to get under the skin of a tearaway pacer when the next Test is set to be played in Perth.

While his sledging might have divided opinions, the rookie wicketkeeper has in his sixth match drawn level with the world record for most catches in a Test, drawing level with Jack Russell and AB de Villiers with 11 and becoming the first Indian to hold as many.

On day five of the first Test at Adelaide Oval, Pant drew level with Wriddhiman Saha’s India record of 10 catches when he held a catch off Australia captain Tim Paine. When he held onto an outer edge from Mitchell Starc in the 1o1st over of Australia’s second innings during the afternoon session, Pant entered elite company.
