Sarfaraz Khan, the young talented batsman who was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team in IPL 2016, but could feature in just 5 matches, was after the final gifted a bat and a pair of gloves along by Virat Kohli, according to sources. The 18-year old who was finished as the second-highest run-getter in the Under-19 World Cup which took place in Bangladesh where he scored 355 runs in six matches was expecting to have a similar season in the IPL but unfortunately missed out due to lack of fitness and sat on the bench for the rest of the season. Sarfaraz who won the ‘Young Cricketer of the Year’ award at the CEAT award function on Monday when asked about the gift from his IPL captain said – “He told me to work hard. I think he’s given me the bow and arrow to help me conquer my target. This means a lot to me.” (As quoted by TOI)

Sarfaraz had played a brilliant cameo in one of the matches against SRH in IPL 2016 where he scored 35 not out off 15 balls and took RCB to 227 in 20 overs. His team certainly missed his presence in the squad when they were asked to chase 209 runs in the final by SRH, eventually losing by 8 runs. The right-hand batsman said he had already started taking his fitness seriously and had lost 5 kilos while he was part of the RCB unit. “Our trainer at RCB, Shankar Basu, has mailed me a fitness programme which I’ll adhere to,” said a determined Sarfaraz.

However, this is not the first time Kohli has gifted his bat to a cricketer. He had made a superb gesture by gifting his bat to Mohammad Aamer when the pacer had returned to international cricket after tough times.
