Ravichandran Ashwin and Virat Kohli continued to get praised following India’s win in the final Test against South Africa in Delhi on Monday. While Ashwin’s match-winning performance was appreciated, Virat’s Test captaincy was recognized. Sunil Gavaskar has suggested that Ashwin has “matured tremendously” as a bowler. He went on to add that although Ashwin is yet to prove his worth overseas, the variety he brings in undoubtedly makes him the best spinner in the game right now. Gavaskar has indeed been impressed with India’s win in the 4-match Test series with them winning the final Test on Monday by defeating the visitors by 337 runs. Meanwhile, he kept it simple and straight for the young Indian Test skipper. He said, “Well done Virat. India is proud of you.”
According to Times of India, he added, “India’s energy levels were terrific. On a cool day where the sun was not out and the batsmen hardly playing any shots a sense of lethargy can creep in but the Indians never lost sight of their objective and so kept hammering away and have now ended up with a 3-0 scoreline against not just the number one ranked team in the world but a team that hadn’t lost an overseas campaign for over 9 years.”
Following the Delhi Test, Ajinkya Rahane and Ashwin dedicated their team’s 3-0 Test win against South Africa to the Chennai flood victims and also lauded the Indian Army for their rescue and relief work. “I would like to dedicate this to the people in Chennai who are suffering from the floods and the Indian Army who is helping out this one is for them,” Rahane said at the post match presentation ceremony. Ashwin, who bagged the man-of-the-series for his 31 wickets and important contributions with the bat, said he would personally like to go out and help those people suffering in Chennai. “Happiness got the better of me, I would like to dedicate my man of the series to the ppl suffering from the Chennai floods,” he tweeted.
