Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma were seen getting emotional as Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured a spot in the final after an easy win over Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on Thursday.
Punjab Kings batting collapsed and they posted a total of 101 runs on scoreboard, RCB chased down the total easily in 10 overs. It was the fourth time in IPL history that RCB reached the final, and their first appearance since 2016. Virat Kohli, known for wearing his heart on his sleeve, couldn’t contain his emotions and neither could his wife, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, who was also present at the stadium.
Punjab Kings’ overly aggressive strategy backfired, as RCB bowled them out for just 101 runs in 14.1 overs. RCB, who are still chasing their maiden IPL title despite making it to the finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016, comfortably chased down the modest target in just 10 overs. Phil Salt, played an impressive unbeaten knock of 56 off 27 balls, with this dominant performance, RCB sealed their place in the title clash set to take place in Ahmedabad on June 3.
Punjab Kings reached the playoffs after 11 years and they will get another chance to qualify for the finals. The match ended early when RCB skipper Rajat Patidar sealed the win with a slog sweep for six off Musheer Khan. While Punjab Kings were thoroughly outplayed by RCB, Kyle Jamieson gave the home crowd a brief moment of joy with a brilliant wicket maiden, which included the dismissal of Virat Kohli (12 off 12).
