An early celebration converted Melbourne Renegades‘ outright win to playing a Super Over against Sydney Sixers in Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). With 3 needed off the last delivery, bowler and Renegades’ captain Amy Satterthwaite informed her fielders that they can give away a single and win the match. However, Sydney Sixers managed a couple of runs, thanks to the presence of mind of batters Sarah Aley and Angela Reakes. Amy bowled a lower full toss which Sarah could not connect well and it flew to deep fine leg fielder Kris Britt. The batters had taken a single by the time Kris threw it back to wicketkeeper Emma Inglis.

Emma, instead of waiting for the umpire’s signal for the ball to be announced dead, started celebrating immediately. Sarah and Angela quickly decided to run for another, as the ball was still live. Before Emma could dislodge the bails, Sarah slid back to her crease. The scores were tied and the match proceeded to a Super Over.

Renegades, however, managed to pull out a victory off the Super Over, chasing down the 9-run target set by Sixers.
