14-year-old Rajasthan Royals (RR) batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi had an unforgettable debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Vaibhav’s very first delivery on his debut match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was sent in for a six, which gave him a spectacular start to his career. He then played a quick knock of 16 runs in his next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Now, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been given a light-but-bold warning from Indian batting sensation Virender Sehwag. The former Indian legend praised the youngster to set his aim on a long and successful IPL career, but warning him to be satisfied with the appearance he gets to make for Rajasthan Royals.
One thing to be noted is, in both of his matches in the IPL, Vaibhav Suryavanshi had went in with an aggressive approach, trying to open his bat from his very first delivery. It was clear from his aggression that he hid not look to make sure that he builds a strong foundation to his knocks.
“If you step out knowing that you will get praised for doing well and criticised for not doing well, you will remain grounded. I have seen many players who come and get fame from one or two matches, then do not do anything because they think that they have become a star player,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
“Suryavanshi must aim to play for 20 years in the IPL. Look at Virat Kohli; he started playing when he was 19 years old, and now he has played all 18 seasons. That is what he should be trying to emulate. But, if he is happy with this IPL, thinking that he is now a crorepati, had a great debut, hit a six off the first ball, maybe we won’t see him next year,” he added.
Talking about his journey, Vaibhav Suryavanshi comes from Bihar, and entered the IPL mega auction with a base price of Rs. 30 lakh. Rajasthan Royals eventually secured him in their side for a great sum of Rs. 1.10 crore, making him the youngest player to be taken in history of IPL.
