West Indies registered a comfortable five-wicket victory over New Zealand in the second Test of the two-Test match series at Kingston. With the victory, West Indies registered its first series win since 2009 and first clean sweep in ten years.

Needing 71 runs to win at the start of fourth day’s play, West Indies chased down the target comfortably losing only one wicket in the morning of night-watchman Kemar Roach for 41. Shivnarine Chanderpaul remained unbeaten along with Narsingh Deonarine as West Indies chased down the target in the first session of the day.

Earlier, New Zealand after being bowled out for 260 on the first day dismissed West Indies for 209, earning a crucial lead of 51 runs.

However, a poor batting performance by the Black Caps in the second innings resulted in West Indies having to chase only 206 for victory.

West Indies were aided by Marlon Samuels’ century in the first innings. The Barbados batsman also added 52 runs in the second innings.

But it was an onslaught of spin in the morning session of day three which left the Kiwis reeling. Deonarine posted figures of four for 37 as he and Tino Best conspired to rip the Kiwi middle order after the tourists had been 110 ahead overnight on day two at 59 for 2.

Brief Scores: New Zealand 260 & 154 (Martin Guptill 42; Dean Brownlie 35, Narsingh Deonarine 4 for 37) lost to West Indies 209 & 206 for 5 (Marlon Samuels 52, Shivnarine Chanderpaul 43*; Kane Williamson 1 for 18) by five wickets.
