Cricket Australia’s Greatest ODI Player of All Time (GOAT) is knockout competition that will decide the mightiest 50-over player of all time. The contest on cricket.com.au features 64 ODI stalwarts. And with a series of votes, the winner will be declared. It’s like a knockout punch. Everyday, while one player will be stormed out, the other will progress to the next round. Among the batsman, Viv Richards edged past Javed Miandad. Whoever emerges triumphant between Sachin Tendulkar and Michael Bevan will battle with Richards to reach the final round. Earlier, Sourav Ganguly locked horns with Pakistan opener Saeed Anwar, which latter got over the line by winning maximum notes. Amongst the fast bowlers, three Pakistani fast bowlers have cruised to the penultimate round. While Wasim Akram defeated Joel Garner, Waqar Younis edged out Shoaib Akhtar. On the other hand, Imran Khan jumped ahead of Glenn McGrath and Curtly Ambrose battled ahead of Chaminda Vaas.
Hence, Akram now faces Waqar and Imran faces Ambrose. Whoever wins between these 2 playoffs will book final’s berth.
At the spinners and all-rounders’ end, Kumar Sangakkara beat Adam Gilchrist and AB de Villiers got the better of Andrew Symonds. Sangakkara now face de Villiers to square off with the winner between Shane Warner and Muthiah Muralitharan.
Along with Tendulkar, another Indian who’s been pushing the greats to the doorstep of defeat is Virat Kohli. The young gun had to walk past the likes of Kevin Pietersen and Chris Gayle and will now face Inzamam-ul-Haq. If Kohli manages to cruise ahead of Inzamam, he’ll face the winner between Sanath Jayasuriya and Ricky Ponting.
However, it would be interesting to see if Kohli is pit against Tendulkar in the final round. Go vote for your favourite player now!
