West Indies cricket team suffered a blow to their World Cup campaign after opening batsman Adrian Barath and wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh were ruled out with hamstring injuries, which is expected to put them out of action for two to three weeks.
West Indies have put batsman Kirk Edwards and wicketkeeper/batsman Devon Thomas on standby. The duo can join the side only after the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) secures approval from the ICC’s technical committee.
Barath’s injury would be a blow for the side as he looked in good form in the recent one-day series against Sri Lanka, where he scored his maiden ODI century in a rain-abandoned game at the S
Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo.
Barath did not bat or field in the team’s second World Cup warm-up match on Tuesday while Baugh retired out on 29 during the same match and Darren Bravo was required to do the wicket-keeping job.
West Indies play their opening World Cup game against South Africa at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi on February 24.
