It is expected that spin will play a major role in Women Ashes 2015. England who need to win all the three T20s to level the series will come out hard and this time with more spin. The English have already called two spinners for their T20 squad— Danielle Wyatt and Danielle Hazell, both of them are off-spinners. Hazell currently ranks as the number one bowler in T20 cricket. Australia’s destructive batter Meg Lanning feels that spin will play a crucial role in the T20s. At present Australia are in commanding position in the series having won the Test convincingly and two matches of the three game ODI component. Australia will try to win the series in Chelmsford itself by winning the first T20 there. It is speculated that the Australians too will play two spinners. Off-spin all-rounder Grace Harris has replaced injured Delissa Kimmince. Australia’s highest ranked T20 bowlers are spinners— Jess Jonassen and Erin Osborne. Cricket.com.au quoted 23-year old Lanning saying to AAP, “Spinners play a massive part in T20 cricket and the two players they’ve brought in certainly suit the T20 game and have done well in the past. They’re going to really add to their side, but we’ve got a fair few spinners in our side as well. So we just have to play to the conditions as much as we can.” ALSO READ: Women’s Ashes 2015: Ellyse Perry lauds Jess Jonassen
“I think the T20 series is going to be a really close one, the format suits both teams quite well. We’re sure that England will bounce back really hard from the Test match, so we know we’re going to have to play really well to get the win we need.” Lanning is ranked number one among T20 cricket batters for Australia. Speaking of her performance so far she said, “I didn’t really contribute with the bat in the Test match, but that’s the way it goes. Sometimes you’ve just got to take your medicine and move on, so I’m looking forward to the T20 series. It suits my game, I really enjoy playing T20 cricket.”
