National Selection Panel of Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday announced the 15-member Australia squad for the Women’s Ashes 2017-18 slated to get underway from November 2017. Apart from the main squad, CA also announced a Cricket Australia XI and an ACT Invitational XI to play the warm-up ties against England Women and Australia Women respectively, in build-up to the main tournament. Both warm-up ties will be played on Friday, November 3, while Test squad members such as Jess Jonassen, Tahlia McGrath and Belinda Vakarewa and South Africans Marizanne Kapp and Dane Van Niekerk would feature in the ACT Invitational XI. “The CA XI tour match is going to give some of the nation’s emerging players the chance to test themselves against a world champion side in England. The depth within Australian cricket is at an all-time high and opportunities like this will ensure players continue to develop and have the continued opportunity to spend quality time out in the middle. Australia’s tour match is also going to be a tough fixture, with the ACT naming a quality side in what will a golden chance for a number of players to put their hand up for selection in the Test team,” said Flegler, as reported by Cricket Australia (CA) in a press release.
