Following their 318-run thrashing of West Indies, India, the top-ranked Test side in the world, have positioned themselves at the top of the ICC Test Championship with 60 points, followed by New Zealand at No. 2 and Sri Lanka at 3.

Last Thursday, three Test matches got underway and each ended up producing a result. It all began with England levelling the Ashes 1-1 after Ben Stokes’ unbeaten 135 sealed a memorable win at Headingley on Sunday. A few hours later, Jasprit Bumrah skittled the West Indies for 100 giving India a grand start to their WTC campaign. Lastly, on Monday, New Zealand dismissed Sri Lanka for 122 to register an innings win and sharing the series 1-1.

Despite the loss, Sri Lanka are third on the table, also with 60 points. England and Australia, who are in the middle of playing out a classic Ashes series, are at the 4th and 5th slot respectively with 32 points each as both teams have also lost and drawn one game each. West Indies, following their thumping defeat are yet to get off the mark. Bangladesh, South Africa and Pakistan are yet to play a Test.

As part of the World Test Championship, between August 2019 and June 2021, the top nine Test teams are to play three home and three away series. At the completion of the cycle, the top two teams will do battle in the final at Lord’s.
