Yuvraj Singh admitted that he had expected a call for the One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia that is set to begin next month Down Under. The all-rounder said, “I think I was expecting my name in the ODI squad as well. But unfortunately it was not there but I look forward to play the T20 series. It’s been hard being out for a while. I had to really work hard to do well in the domestic circuit, last couple of games I had done well so I’m happy to get selected for the T20 side.” READ: Yuvraj Singh included in India’s T20I squad for Australia tour 2015-16

Yuvraj was recalled for the Indian side that will take on Australia in the 3-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series in January after the conclusion of the 5-match ODI series. The selection committee announced the squad for India’s tour of Australia 2016 on Saturday which also saw the comeback of old faces like Ashish Nehra and Harbhajan Singh who have not played in the blue jersey for a while now.

According to India Today, Yuvraj added, “When you play international cricket for 13-14 years, it’s really hard to go back and push yourself in the domestic side, there is no motivation. However, doing well in the domestic tournaments is the only way back into the national side so I focussed only on that in the last year and a half. “ READ: Yuvraj Singh gifted an opportunity to prove his worth for India in Australia ahead of ICC World T20 2016

Remembering his heroics in the 2007 ICC World T20 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, he was asked if was still as enthusiastic as he was in those years. He replied, “For any good player, pride is very important. So a comeback and play for your country again is always special, so hopefully I can do well. The T20 world Cup is in India this time, so everybody is going to look forward to that. And hopefully I’ll have enough games before that if I get an opportunity to represent my country in the World Cup.”
